Active School Flag
We have always been a very active school who partake in various physical activities all year round - GAA, Swimming, Soccer, Rugby, Hip Hop Dancing, Tennis & Yoga to name but a few! This year, 2025/2026, we have decided to put our love for physical activity into working towards our very first Active School Flag. Follow along on our journey to becoming a recognised Active School!

Physical Activity
Skip Around the World Challenge October 2025
Our whole school took part in the Skip Around the World Challenge in October. We were delighted to receive the set of skipping ropes from Active Schools to help us engage in this challenge. Our Autism Class also developed their skipping skills with hula hoops. Our favourite part of the challenge was skipping in a line of two or three people using the long ropes.
Croke Park Movement Breaks
January 2026
The perfect daily challenge to get our bodies moving during the cold Winter month of January! The Croke Park Movement Breaks was an activity that each classroom looked forward to every day. All pupils loved having behind the scenes access to Croke Park and very much enjoyed the exercises and movements each day - so much so that some pupils still ask to put them on even after the challenge was completed!
Playground Leaders
Tuesdays & Thursdays = Playground Leaders Days!
Our Senior Room Pupils followed a rota to teach & facilitate playground games to the Junior Room & Autism Class during big break. The Leaders decided what games/ activities they wish to teach and organised the necessary PE Equipment they needed. Our Senior Pupils loved the extra responsibility while the our Junior Pupils loved having the older pupils teach them!

Roscommon Sports Partnership Workshop
A big thank you to Charlene from Roscommon Sports Partnership who visited our school for three workshops. We all learned some new & fun playground games we can play on the yard at break times. Our Senior pupils also took note of the games they can introduce in January when we begin our Playground Leaders Programme.

'What Club Are You In?' Survey
At Granlahan NS we pride ourselves on our strong links with our local Sports Clubs. We constantly encourage, promote & celebrate our pupils participation in these clubs. We are very fortunate to have access to such a wide variety of Sports in our locality.
